Divergence Dance Collective

Divergence Dance Collective, lead by Baseema, is a collective of dancers specializing in a modern style of belly dance.  It is an American multicultural fusion art form influenced by the celebratory nature of folk dances from the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey, India, and Spain as well as other countries around the world.  Formatted steps, cues, and close connections allow us to dance without choreography to create art in-the-moment.

Sometimes we dance with other dance friends.

We also dance with swords and shawls!

It started as The Dance Space -
space to gather and dance.

The Dance Space was created by Baseema in November 2017 as a space to welcome all styles of belly dance and other movement classes.

In 2020, the Covid pandemic forced us dance at our homes.

Almost every day since The Dance Space had to be given up, Baseema thought
"I wish we had a space of our own".
So we evolved into Our Dance Space!

Then Baseema's knees started to get angry.  And she had to stop teaching formal classes.

But, there was a special group who had a great bond  and they continued to dance together, leading classes for each other, and learning together.

Baseema transitioned to "a director who sometimes dances" and this special group became

Divergence Dance Collective!
